Working with our community to conserve natural and productive landscapes, and to enhance scenic, recreational, and educational opportunities.

MALT strives to protect naturally and recreationally valuable lands in Addison County. Now 35 years old, MALT currently has 59 land and trail easements on over 3,700 acres, employs staff, and provides services without discrimination. The intersection of our conservation and recreation work is highlighted by the 19-mile Trail Around Middlebury (TAM), an “emerald necklace” that passes through protected forests, meadows, farms, wetlands, and river corridors. We offer access to 1,700 acres of conserved lands for skiing, hunting, hiking, fishing, and more, and estimate that 10,000+ individuals access our trail network annually. Recently, MALT added nature-based education programs, now accessed by over 400 youth and adults.  MALT has a rich history of working collaboratively with local organizations, schools, and community groups to promote environmental stewardship and conservation practices in our community.
